Building Information Modelling (BIM)

BIM is an intelligent 3D model-based process that gives architecture, engineering, and construction professionals the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct, and manage buildings and infrastructure.

We have developed an expertise in BIM on projects since 2008 and were the Constructing Excellence 2014 Award winner for Innovation in design and Procurement using BIM on £80m new build redevelopment projects at Bristol Royal Infirmary for which we helped develop a direct from Model to Fabrication process for structure and external envelope works packages as part of a project DfMA strategy.

It has been a Government requirement that all public sector projects should be to BIM level 2 by 2016. The importance of BIM either for new build or refurbishment projects lies not in the ability to clash detect or prepare 4d output or view in 3D but as the support of site wide FM data base that enables a client to fully access the hard data required to maintain the building and implement change in the future.

Real data can be used to test environmental conditions continuously incorporating change, systems can be evaluated independently, and the model can be integrated to determine a scheduled repair and replace strategy.

Handing over a BIM model to a main contractor also adds confidence to the tender process ensuring that future client requirements are embedded.
